Citation guide

Every article carries a Cite this article button at the head of the page. Open it, choose a style, and copy the formatted reference. The same formats are described here for reference.

How citations are assembled

Each citation is built from the article’s bibliographic fields — title, contributors, year, page range — and its parent issue’s volume, number, and year. The journal title is always rendered in full as Journal of Process Oriented Psychology. Where page numbers were not captured during digitisation, the citation is still well-formed; the page range simply drops out.

The formatters live in src/components/Citation/format-citation.ts and are pure functions of those inputs — no state, no I/O. Adding a new style is a one-function change at that file’s FORMATTERS table.

Supported styles

  • APA (7th-ish) — surname-and-initials authors, year in parentheses, journal title and volume in standard APA order.
  • Chicago author-date — first author last-name-first; subsequent authors first-name-first; double-quoted title.
  • JPOP house styleprovisional. The house format is pending review by the editor. The tool currently emits a clear, conservative pattern (Author. Title. JPOP Vol N No M (Year), pp. NN-NN.) which will be replaced with the journal’s preferred form when confirmed.

Worked examples

Three sample references — a plain article, a book review, and an interview transcript — rendered through every supported format. Names and titles in these examples are synthetic; they are not pulled from real articles.

Review & interview citation conventions

Reviews are cited under the reviewer’s name, with the reviewed book in square brackets (APA) or after a “Review of” clause (Chicago). Interviews are cited under the interviewer’s name, with the interviewee(s) named in the title slot. The JPOP archive treats both as first-class article kinds — the same Cite-this-article tool produces the right shape automatically based on the article’s typed role fields.

House style — under review

The JPOP house style is being confirmed with the journal’s editor. The format above is a placeholder; once confirmed, the formatJpop function in format-citation.ts will be updated and every citation across the archive will pick up the change automatically.
